Rahmat Ali’s Impossible Dream ( Pakistan )

(The Post is influenced By the writing of Sir Cam Cambridge, UK)

When Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah bid farewell to Delhi and arrived in Karachi on August 7, 1947, he confessed to his ADC, “Do you know, I never expected to see Pakistan in my lifetime.” Pakistan was a dream — a Cambridge student’s dream at that. When the idea was first proposed it was labeled “chimerical and impracticable”. Student follies, however, have a habit of sometimes becoming reality. Pakistan was one “student’s scheme”.

Choudhary Rahmat Ali, a Cambridge University law student, initiated the movement for Pakistan by issuing the pamphlet Now or Never, or the Pakistan Declaration, on January 28, 1933 from 3 Humberstone Road, Cambridge. To make the claim more representative he had the document signed by three other students, none of whom was at Cambridge.

Calling Rahmat Ali “a historical figure and a seminal thinker”, Pakistan’s eminent historian KK Aziz acknowledges in Rahmat Ali: A Biography: “He was the first to think of a sovereign status for the Muslims of India, to prepare a well-defined plan for this, to organise a movement for advancing the cause, and to mount a proper campaign for preaching to the unconverted.”
And in addition he also came up with the anagram “Pakistan”. Jinnah’s biographer, Stanley Wolpert, has written that Rahmat Ali issued a “massive quantity of strange religio-political pamphlets and letters.”

According to Aziz Beg, another biographer of Jinnah, Rahmat Ali’s ideas stirred the young and inspired the “growth of Muslim political consciousness throughout India”. Wolpert says that Jinnah chose to ignore Rahmat Ali, but “He (Jinnah) would not, however, be able much longer to ignore the political demand of Rahmat Ali’s obviously well-funded movement sponsored from the heart of Cambridge.”

Both Jinnah and Rahmat Ali arrived in the UK in November 1930. Jinnah, the brilliant lawyer from Bombay, soon bought a house in Hampstead and pursued his legal career and attempted, without much luck, to enter parliament. The young Rahmat Ali went to Cambridge and commenced his bar-at-law in London.

In 1933, when ‘Now or Never’ was issued, Jinnah was aged 57, while Rahmat Ali was 36.
Jinnah had become disillusioned and had lost hope for India when Rahmat Ali started his youthful agitation for Pakistan. When Rahmat Ali discussed the Pakistan idea with Jinnah in the spring of 1933, Jinnah called it an “impossible dream”. When things didn’t work out as he expected in London or perhaps he simply got bored leading the life of an English gentleman, Jinnah returned to India in 1934 to take up the leadership of the All-India Muslim League.
By 1940 the League had got nearer to the Pakistan idea by adopting the famous Lahore Resolution. However, it did not mention the word Pakistan. Jinnah himself did not use the word Pakistan until the early 1940s. Once Jinnah took up a case, it was a certainty that he’d win. As far as Pakistan was concerned, Jinnah was a late starter. But once the single-minded barrister had picked up the Pakistan file, it was only a matter of time before the country would be established. August 14, 1947 came soon enough.

For Jinnah it was a case of “Better a moth-eaten Pakistan than no Pakistan”. Rahmat Ali, the visionary, found this difficult to accept. Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre write in Freedom at Midnight, “The man who had first articulated the impossible dream of Pakistan spent the day of 14 August alone in his cottage at 3 Humberstone Road [he was actually there only as a student in the academic year 1932/33]... His dream belonged to another man now, the man who scorned it when Rahmat Ali had first begged him to become its champion.”

Altaf faces interview with Najam Sethi

There is a long synopsis of the interview of Mr. Altaf Hussain, leader of the Muttahida Quami Movement who was interviewed by a renowned journalist named Najam Sethi while in London, United Kingdom.

Altaf started answering questions by offering Najam Sethi with a self-hand-made Haleem party then moving on to clarifying the allegations on his party came during Military operation against his party in 1992.

<<>> At the beginning of the interview, Altaf Hussain reveals that Nawaz Sharif agreed after his first term government that no operation against mqm will ever take place in future now.

Najam Sethi asked about how you plan to work with Nawaz Sharif if he becomes prime minister, of which Altaf said that his party has got its doors of negotiations open for all political parties.

Changing the ladder, Altaf Hussain tells about some facts about how mqm was accused of Hakeem Said murder of which the court proved the party innocent.

Altaf also tells about the fact that there was an APC held in London in which Nawaz Sharif presented with a clause in the MoU that no party should negotiate with MQM for any coalition, where as Pakistan People’s Party was the only party which disagreed to sign the clause.

After 2008 election, Altaf addressing in his first speech, congratulated Nawaz Sharif by his name and publically told Nawaz Sharif that MQM is a democratic party and accepts its mandate with an open heart. When Najam Sethi asked if Nawaz Sharif responded to your good gesture, Altaf Hussain said that no such message came from the other side.

Altaf complained that after elections, Nawaz didn’t openly accept the victory mandate of MQM and accepted that MQM is Pakistan’s third largest political party.

Altaf Hussain said about the peace situation of Karachi that ever since the law and order situation turned foil in northern areas of Pakistan, the situation has begun to turn violent.

Altaf asked Najam Sethi to consider the crime records of month of June 2009; and see yourself what kind of Taliban have been arrested from Karachi possessing highly explosive materials and automatic weapons. He said that Taliban are trying to settle in the outskirts of Karachi where the middle and lower-middle class neighborhood of citizen been living since decades.

Answering to a question by Najam Sethi that why nationalist parties and Muttahida Quami Movement have a similar agenda to keep the IDPs out of Sindh, MQM chief Altaf Hussain said that the nationalist parties are against any arrival of the displaced people, whereas Muttahida Quami Movement is welcoming IDPs but just with a condition that the people arriving must be registered and information like their names, father names be recorded and they be settled in a separate designated area.

Najam Sethi questioned Altaf Hussain about the violence took place in the beginning of June of which Altaf Hussain responded that MQM had announced within the citizens of Karachi and asked them to establish citizen’s vigilance committees to overlook any Talibanization taking place there, and as a result Taliban took preemptive measures and started violent actions.

Furthering to that, Altaf said that Taliban started a land grabbing activity in the outskirts of Karachi, which resulted in locals defending their neighborhood which then turned violent.

At a point during interview, Najam Sethi mentioned that it has been you Altaf Hussain who has been the first to signal the danger of Taliban to Pakistan, your party was the first party and we saluted you, and now all the Pakistan seconds your policy against Taliban. Najam also mentioned that when Muttahida Quami Movement first began to denounce Taliban, other political parties started supporting Taliban and literally called them heroes as they were fighting against their common enemy ‘America’.

Altaf said that he salute the officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army, Frontier Constabulary, and Police who are fighting war against Taliban in the northern areas of Pakistan.

Altaf Hussain mentioned one key thing of his point that he has been signaling danger of Taliban in Pakistan from last 2-3 years and if a proper action would have then taken, the situation would have not been worst like it is at present.

When Najam Sethi asked why Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf did not, the then president of Pakistan, took actions against the Taliban to such extent, Altaf said that Muttahida Quami Movement was a collation party and was not the absolute authority to take actions, but did what was possible by informing via phone calls and giving press statements to take actions. Altaf also mentioned that Muttahida Quami Movement took a different stance on the issue of Baluchistan than that of the government in power.

Altaf Hussain said that on the 12th May it was a conspiracy against Muttahida Quami Movement by the hidden forces that literally provided weapons, funds and MQM party flags to some covert persons and sent them to hide themselves in different parties during the rally. Altaf said that witnesses including photographs, video films can be presented into the courts if asked.

Altaf Hussain questioned Najam Sethi that how could MQM even think of any violence taking place on the 12th May rally in which thousands of women and children, including mothers, sisters and daughters were participating. Altaf said that if MQM had pre-planned any violence, then why would they have let the rally be attended by their supporter women and children?

While smiling Najam Sethi asks Altaf Hussain, What is a secret hand and hidden force? Responding to that Altaf Hussain said that Ojri Camp incident – it was a secret hand, Liaqat Ali Khan murder – was a secret hand, Benazir Bhutto assassination, – was a secret hand, a number of lost democratic governments – it was a secret hand, which is still secret and a mystery.

He explicitly took name of Punjab and said that the awareness is being spread in Punjab now, and said that just like your wife (Najam Sethi’s wife), stood to raise her voice against Taliban, the message that the status-quo of feudal class and a country’s ruling by some special blessed families, is spreading wider than before, who have been ruling the country from last 60 plus years.

<<>> Altaf Hussain said that Muttahida Quami Movement is the only party in Pakistan which is against feudal system in Pakistan, which is against the ’selling’ of assembly tickets, and that’s the only reason that neither I have ever contested an election for senate, provincial or national assembly, for speaker, deputy speaker or for mayor or deputy mayor, nor my any brother, sister contested ever have.

Najam Sethi asked that why the people of Punjab do not like the anti-feudal and anti-family-politics ideology of Muttahida Quami Movement of which Altaf answered that in Punjab, there has been a massive propaganda against MQM that will take a while to negate itself and this is going to take some time.

When Najam Sethi asked who did this propaganda, the chief of MQM said that the ‘country’s feudal elite’ and a coalition of generals of the army and civil bureaucrats, and the trica of these forces who wants to maintain this status quo.

Altaf asked that more Muslims are living in India than in Pakistan, being the Muslim power divided. He said that if we suppose for a while what if Quaid-e-Azam’s 14 point were accepted by Congress as is and subcontinent was not divided.

He said that a very few people are aware of this fact that, in his address at Allahabad India during Presidential Address on the 25th Session of the All India Muslim League on 29th December 1930; Allama Iqbal never asked for the establishment of the state of Pakistan, but instead he said that wherever there is a Muslim majority in sub-continent, it should be formed into a small state.

Altaf said that the people of Punjab can verify this statement by the son of Allama Iqbal, Justice Rtrd. Dr. Javed Iqbal.

Najam Sethi asked about the Jinnahpur saga which was made a reason to eliminate Muttahida Quami Movement during the 1992 operation. Najam Sethi said that the whole picture now sounds like propaganda as now Muhammad Ali Durrani has also presented a bill in the Senate of Pakistan that there should be smaller provinces coming out of 4 large provinces.

Answering to the Jinnahpur saga which was raged against MQM, Altaf Hussain said that there was a Brigadier named Asif Nawaz who was at that time present in Karachi, called a press conference in which he invited the journalists from Punjab but never invited any single journalist from Karachi & Sindh and presented them with fake and fictitious Maps of Jinnahpur and lured them to publish the maps on their front pages of newspapers with the news of MQM secretly planning a Jinnahpur.

Altaf said that just a few days later, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) which is a public relations department of forces o Pakistan, sent an in-writing clarification to the media, stating that the Pakistan Army have never found any Jinnahpur Map or plan from any office of Muttahida Quami Movement and this information is completely baseless.

Altaf complained that the ISPR clarification that no such thing as Jinnahpur existed, did not get as much media attention as it was when MQM was blamed, and newspapers published just a one-column news, where as the Jinnahpur propaganda news against MQM was placed in the headlines of the newspapers.

Najam Sethi asked if MQM approached court against the defamation of the party with the Jinnahpur propaganda, to which Altaf said that since there is a clarification already published in the newspapers, nothing more can be done now to recover from the defamation.

Answering to another question of having smaller provinces in Pakistan is feasible; he said that that this is a global phenomena to create multiple administrative units by introducing more smaller provinces just like we have seen India.

Altaf said that the population of Punjab is equal to that of whole Iran, which has 36 provinces. Having that in front of us, there is a dire need of creating new administrative units. As people of Saraiki area and people of Bahawalpur are demanding creation of new provinces, as this will be in the favor of the country and will make it further easy to administer and will also ease the federal government’s job.

Altaf Hussain said that this is also written in the manifesto of Muttahida Quami Movement that the demand of Saraiki people and the people of south Punjab be fulfilled with the creation of a new province who have been complaining that they have been the servants of the throne of Lahore since the creation of Pakistan.

The leader of the MQM said that during my address in the India, I said that Pakistan is a reality and India is a reality and both the countries should accept each other with an open heart. Staging war and rift relations between militaries of the both countries is not in the favor of the citizens of the countries. The people of the both countries should be allowed to roam freely and there should be open trade to improve economic ties.

Najam said that two days ago I asked Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf that who is our enemy? If it’s India which is our enemy? As it has been told us from the last 40-50 years, on it is not. Responding that Pervez Musharraf said that there is a threat from India, but our enemy is Taliban.

Commenting on the statement of Pervez Musharraf, Altaf Hussain said that unfortunately there has been ruling elite in both the countries which have taught their citizens that India and Pakistan are enemies of each other. He also said that both the countries are now an equipped with nuclear arsenal and this is not easy to say that even after being nuclear powers, two countries could afford to go in a war.

Altaf said that this is my humble request to leaders of Pakistan and India that they should improve relations and learn from the history of Europe. He mentioned that countries in Europe have fought countless number of wars for 1000 years, including first and second world wars and there are countless number of one-to-one wars and now they have learnt from it. He also said that if we look at Europe, now they have learnt this lesson that there are no benefits of war.

Najam Sethi asked Altaf Hussain about what do you think if the Judiciary is free to decide in Pakistan? Responding to it Altaf said that the justice should be easily accessible by common people and not just the elite class. He said that the justice also be served to the people who are jailed for as long as 15 years for minor crimes and supreme court should also take suo moto action on it.

At the end, Najam Sethi asked about the NRO as it helped to overcome political cases against all parties, to which Altaf replied that this can be better decided in the court of law of how to deal with NRO, and if the NRO gets declared illegal, Muttahida Quami Movement will contest any pending case the way it has contested the others.

CLAIMING WHAT YOU CANNOT PRACTICE IS PAKISTAN POLITICS

On 12th May 2009 when the city was observing a High Securty Red Alert, CID Police seized a heavy consignment of Automatic weapon from an Intercity Coach Standing in a locality of SITE Karachi. The Coach arrived in Karachi on the same date after travelling more than 1200 KM from Peshawar; the provincial head of the Pakistan’s dirturbed NWFP provience.A Public Holiday was announced by the Sindh Government to ease the tension rising in the city after an ethnic group called for Strike and openly issue threats for the property and lives of comman citizens of Karachi. The Political Party rulling Karachi recently criticize the role of same ethnic group for supporting and patronizing the massive land grabbing, drug and arms trafficing in subrups of the City by the Taliban Extremist.

On the Other hand Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan putting forward his opinion to establish peace in Karachi demands the federal Government to declare Karachi Arm free Zone, cancel all the license issued and seized the arm people are carrying for their safety. But a million dollar question is to Ban the arrival of illegal arms and its proliferation, as the City has no culture of weapon with it.

Diverting the nation’s attention. Pakistani Media

Yet the nizam-e-adl wasn’t enforced and the media of Pakistan was strongly supporting the law by declaring it the will of the people of SWAT and Malakand agency and supported the nizam-e-adl. The stance of the NWFP government was over confident at that moment and they were continuously supporting the soofi mohammed as a guarantor and shacked hands with the Taliban’s with a treaty that they wont resist armed force and give up arms after enforcement of Nizam-e-adl. Media was pro these talks and showed a strong support for the treaty between government of Pakistan and a banned outfit TTP.

But the situation became critical when the TTP (Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) refused to give up arms and continued their strategy for capturing as much as land in the name of nizam-e-adl. The treaty became broken and Taliban stepped out of malakand and killed people and challenged the writ of the government and the whole nation asked for an operation against Taliban’s.

The Armed forces Pakistan approach’s the insurgence areas of NWFP affected by Taliban and started an operation against them and whole nation supported this act by the armed forces against Taliban’s. According to the sources above 700 miscreants got killed in the operation and millions of people migrated from swat to different save areas of NWFP.As a common outcome of every operation for the sovereignty of Pakistan.

The United Nations refugee agency UNHCR is airlifting tonnes of additional emergency supplies to northwest Pakistan to help cope with the unfolding humanitarian disaster there The fighting has sparked a civilian exodus from the former tourist destination. In recent days 360,000 people have left their homes and in all about 500,000 are expected to flee, joining about 600,000 people displaced earlier from Swat and other areas . not only from UNHCR the whole nation is supporting the swat effected people and tents is being provided to the people and food and rest of the things as well.

At first the media supported operation against Taliban’s and condemned activities of Taliban’s. But when people get affected of the operation and start migrating from the effected areas of NWFP , first media started asking for aid and help for people of swat but on the other hands condemning the operation under the table. Yellow journalism is being proved and some anchors are portraying it bad bad and bad. Accusing the armed forces for the situation of Muhajir camps and declaring the operation in swat not in favor of the people.

The media is again changing its motive like they changed on Lal Mosque dispute and now again blaming the armed forces for lack or administrative issue’s in muhaijir camps and by criticizing the army showing the whole nation what is really happening there in muhajir camps people are suffering things which is true in fact but this own media yelled when the Taliban’s were coming into other parts of the country and asked the Army to take an immediate action against Taliban this double standard journalism is leading country no where but in turmoil and some yellow journalist are now again diverting the attention of the nation from Taliban’s to the people who got effected of this operation and by doing that they are derailing national spirit of the nation against Taliban’s.

Military action will promote extremism says Imran Khan

Imran Khan had earlier spoken at the Karachi Press Club, criticising the decision of military action against Taliban. He also said Pakistan should cut off alliance with United States in war against terrorism. He urged the government to propose an exit strategy to the US admin and put an end to US dictation. He has been vocal against the drone attacks by US army and believed that it has just increased extremism in Pakistan. He believes that people of Pakistan are vehemently opposed to Pakistan army military action in NWFP, when the actual fact is most Pakistanis have been morally supporting their Pakistan army for this action.

Imran Khan believes that dialogue is a way forward, rather than taking actions that would promote further wave of erupted violence and extremism. The government had tried dialogue through Nizam e adl and it proved to be a huge failure with Taliban not keeping their words. Imran Khan is very well aware about the failure of this peace deal. Unintentionally, he has been criticised by his opponents for having a weaker stand against the Taliban.

Although its admirable that Imran Khan is seeking peaceful means to advocate solutions to Pakistan’s current situation, however his claim that Taliban is not a serious threat to Pakistan has had doubtful implications on his stand as a politician.

Its very well being a politician who’s taken brazen steps in speaking against various parties and government, but he needs to realise such brazen steps needs to be backed by the feelings of majority of Pakistanis. If majority of Pakistanis feel military action is justified and if they feel Taliban is a serious threat, then why is he going against them?

Justice is not only blind but MUTE too

Sufi Mohammad of banned outfit Tehrek Nifaz E Sharit Mohammadi (TNSM) has openly slammed the judicial system and democracy system by claiming democracy and the Supreme Court and High courts are haram (forbidden). He furthermore added that people who claim their cases in Supreme courts and High courts are non Muslims and they should be killed for doing Kuffur by claiming their cases in the courts of Pakistan. He demanded the immediate removal of the judicial system and judges, otherwise TNSM will take action against the judicial system of Pakistan and also against the democratic system in Pakistan.

All these words spoken against the judicial and democratic system of Pakistan and no action have been taken by the founders of the justice movement, civil societies, NGOs, political parties, religious parties and social workers. Not even a single statement of condemnation was issued and of course the criminal silence of Chief justice of Pakistan Mr. Iftikhar Chaudhary, who is the main beneficiary of justice movement and God father of justice. He is directly supporting the claims of Sufi Mohammad, the chief of banned outfit.

It is very clear that justice movement was for only one individual that is Chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhary.

There is an impression now, that justice movement was carried out by the Pro Taliban powers, and that is why the Chief justice, civil societies, NGOs and other political parties like Pakistan Tehrek e Insaaf is silent, the very elements for raising its voice for the democracy in Pakistan and for the restoration of justice in Pakistan in the first place. Their silence could only mean that they agree with Sufi Mohammad and they might possibly agree that judicial system is haram and that democracy equates to infidelity (Kuffur). If it equates to infidelity then they should not have raised their voices for the justice movement. Since they have raised the justice movement they should openly condemn the statements of Sufi Mohammad and they should block Islamabad roads and create civil disobedience in the province and ask Chief justice that does our judicial system equates to infidelity and is it un Islamic.

I am confused by the leaders and civil societies who carried out the justice movement. Their silence over Sufi’s remarks is a sheer hypocrisy. If their silence is not hypocritical at all, then it means the Taliban brand of providing fast justice is the right way and our judicial and democratic system is based on infidelity and thus deemed un Islamic.

Land Mafia wants to take over Karachi

Its a well known fact, that Karachi contains a large number of Land Mafias. The land Mafia has its influence on multiple areas inside the city as well as the exit areas of Karachi.
Land mafia is involved in drugs, illegal weapons, kidnaping for ransom, bank roberies and many other crimes. This land mafia group has maked the city a living hell for common citizen.
Today when i was near gulshan chowrangi, i came to know that rangers have started an operation against these drug dealers and land mafia situated at Al-Asif and Ajmer nagri, a thought came to my mind that its not for the first time, and last time when it happened, we witnessed a blood shed in Karachi and now the same situation. Last time my bike was burnt, and i simply can't afford it once again, so i tried my best to reach home safely. I faced many problems and saw many people who look like afghanis, they all were heavily armed and were ready to destroy anything which comes to their way. My 3 colleagues have lost their bikes today, The Gangs and Mafia burnt their bikes in front of their eyes. The same pain and hatred i m feeling today what i felt on december 2008.
What happened today, was it for the interest of the people of Karachi, or was it a pre-planned setup to allow these Land mafia gangs to once again show their power, i have no doubts that they have the support of ANP (a hypocrite), JI (an Extrmisits) and Imran Khan (Anti Karachi).
These all are the real culprits behind these bloodsheds, they have their stake in all this scenario, and they are the one who gain their political advantages by creating such situations in this economic hub of Pakistan.
I, as a common citizen, knows that these terrorists have a very strong network in Karachi, and if one group is effected, the other comes into the action, but our govt. does'nt know such things, they just started the operation against them in 2 areas, without keeping any security arrangements in other sensitive areas of the City, and the time when the operation started, all the gangs of land mafia came on to the streets and started their activities, they burnt many cars, shooted many citizens, attacked homes, mis behaved Ladies and looted houses and shops.
Once again the people of Karachi are victimized by these elements and there is no one to stop or counter them.
May Allah save this City, AMEEN

Dir : TNSM, TTP and Jamat-e-Islami

They were 50 people who became victim of the suicide attack. 36 people were killed in a suspected car bomb attack Sixteen people were injured in the blast believed to have been carried out to disrupt the by-election for a National Assembly. It was apparently a suicide attack,” DSP Arsala Khan said, adding: “The bomber detonated his explosive-laden car parked near camps set up by different parties in front of the school in Shalbandi village, 5kms from the district headquarters of Daggar. Buner, which is adjacent to the Swat valley. According to witnesses, the bomber was about 18 years old and he was wearing a Chitrali cap. A large number of voters were present at the camps when the blast took place.

Finely the dust settled and Tehrik-e-taliban Swat claimed responsibility for the attacks, which left 36 people dead and sixteen badly wounded. The act was declared revenge by the talibans of their six people who got killed four month ago. ANP wins the elections in major parts of dir and swat and the party due to its secular status.

The banned Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi (TNSM) has reactivated its cadres and taken to the streets in the Districts of Dir, Malakand and Swat, using FM channels to whip up fundamentalist sympathy and jihadi sentiments. The Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) has a strong presence in the Districts of Upper and Lower Dir and runs about 30 FM radio channels that advocate jihad in Kashmir and Afghanistan.

At least three major jihadi groups maintain their liaison and recruitment offices in the Timergara area of Lower Dir District. These include the JEI Jamat-e-Islami backed Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), former JI affiliate Al Badr Mujahideen, now re-named as Al Suffa Foundation, and the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LET), now known as Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JUD). Other jihadi organisations that have representatives in the Timergara and Warai areas of Dir include the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JEM), which now calls itself Al Rahman Trust, the Harkat-ul-Ansar (HUA), the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HUM) and a Kashmiri group called the Pasban Millat.

By using Jamat-e-Islami FM radios which has helped the jihadi sentiments to preach people for jihad has now again became a tool for terrorism, with the Collision TTP which has itself accepted many suicide bomb attacks in Lahore, Islamabad and NWFP and in

Many other parts of the country was demanding Nizam-e-adl in the region which was being approved by the President of Pakistan Mr Asif ali Zardari with a treaty that taliban would stop their activities will give up weapons and they wont march into any other part of the country.

Yet the treaty isn’t being fulfilled by the talibans , and soofi mohammed declared Parliament , Courts and other institutes of Pakistan un Islamic . Which left nation in grieved concern. On the other hand TTP spokesman Haji Muslim khan said they would not give up arms and would prolong their activities to the other parts of the Country.

Tahrik-e-Taliban Pakistan backed up by the Jamat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawwar Hassan . Declared the talibans government in Afghanistan the most peaceful government in the history of the world and there’s no need to be shocked at his statement, we know the former relationship of soofi mohammed with Jamat-e-islami that he did contested Election on Jamat-e-islami ticket and left politics when he finely realized its un Islamic.

Minorities and constitutions of Pakistan and Right abused

First constitution of Pakistan was named as Objective resolution which was proposed and enforced in 1948 which states that :

Adequate provision shall be made for the minorities to freely profess and practice their religions and develop their cultures.

Second constitution of Pakistan was proposed in 1956 and it states that :

All citizens of Pakistan were granted freedom to profess, practice and propagate any religion and the right to establish, maintain and manage religious institutions.

Third Constitution of 1962 states that :

Minorities belonging to any religion should be given proper rights to live and worship freely .

Constitution of 1973 :

According to the constitution of 1973 minorities was given full and free rights to practice there religion and worship . most importantly 1973 constitution gives the representation to the minorities in ASSEMBLIES on special seats for minorities and was given right to take part in elections and to vote .

Latter on it was amended by President Pervaiz Musharaf that they can also vote to general member and on the other hand they will vote there minority candidate on special , this gives the right of double vote the minorities.

Above mention was the constitutions of Pakistan and what they state about the minorities living in Pakistan , sadly those were only written laws and no practical implementation was done on the electorate process of minorities .

Rites of minorities have been abused by Taliban and Islamic Extremist and militants all over Pakistan

On April 20, residents of Taseer Town in Karachi woke up to find pro-Taliban messages chalked onto the walls of two churches. The messages included, "Long Live the Taliban," "Talibanization is our goal," and "Embrace Islam or Prepare to Die." The next day, the Christians residents staged a protest in the hopes of attracting the attention of the local government to provide protection. Officials, however, did nothing.

The night of the protest, April 21, more than 100 masked terrorists invaded Taseer Town with automatic rifles. The terrified Christian residents ran to their homes and locked themselves inside.

According to Asif Stephen, a Christian politician, one of the protesters said, "We were protesting peacefully and all of sudden, a few militants carrying the latest weapons rushed in. Some of the attackers entered homes and pillaged money and jewelry and abused the women and burned their properties. The elderly were injured and one child fell to the ground and died in my friend's arms."

The Taliban militants went door to door, breaking into Christian homes and dragging the elderly and the women out into the street by their hair. The Taliban leaders shouted, "You infidels have to convert to Islam or die. Why did you wash up warnings inscribed on walls of church and home doors? How dare you are to take out procession against Taliban?"

The terrorists sexually assaulted several women and physically abused dozens more with clubs, iron rods, and whips. They set a number of homes on fire. When two Christians resisted, the militants killed them execution-style directly in front of their families.

On the other hand Sikh families living in Orakzai Agency have left the agency after the Taliban demanded Rs 50 million as jizia (tax) from them, official sources and locals said on Tuesday.

Residents of Ferozekhel area in Lower Orakzai Agency told Daily Times on Tuesday that around 10 Sikh families left the agency after the demand by the Taliban, who said they were a minority and liable to pay the tax for living in the area in accordance with sharia.

Locals said the Taliban had notified the Sikh families about the ‘tax’ around a week ago. They said of the 15 Sikh families in Ferozekhel, 10 had shifted while the remaining were preparing to do so.

The locals said the families were impoverished and had left the area to avoid any Taliban action.

No other political parry have condemn these terrible and anti Islamic acts of these Taliban Animals other then MQM the third largest political party of Pakistan and have taken the clear step against them . while the other political parties have been very quiet and even judiciary is quiet over all these acts .

What is the reason for the silence of other political parties and leaders of Pakistan ?

Are they afraid of these animals and love there seats rather then country and peoples of Pakistan ?

DRUG mafia of NWFP and SOHRAB GOTH(karachi) wants the drug in the blood of youth

In Karachi Specialy Gulistan e Jahaur is the heavy populated area of Karachi and called as the jungle of flats and 75% of the total population is based on Youngsters . Conspiracy is being hatched against the youth of the Karachi specially those who are living in Gulistan e jahaur . The drug smugglers, drug dealers and drug sales agents from NWFP and SOHRAB GOTH in Karachi are been activated there and they are selling drugs from Rabia city and Phelwan goth . local Tea hotels of gulistan e jahaur and phelwan goth is are acting as the shops for the drug smugglers and youth buyers . Previously these drug deals were deal from SOHRAB GOTH , QUAIDA BAD and Banaras . Law enforcement agencies have been helpless against them in past and havnt done any successful operation against them until few days back when the little operation was carried out by Police in a result of that operation they have moved or you can say that extended towards Gulistan e jahaur and spreading the drugs in the bloods of our nation . The drug sold over there includes Heroine , Majuana (charas) , Tobacco, Caffeine, Ecstasy, Crack, Amphetamines, Anabolic Steroids, Cocaine and this is all being done under the hands of Gulistan e jahaur Police as the big amount of sold drugs is been given to officers of Gulistan e jahaur Police. These are the very peoples who have taken over the roofs of apartments in gulistan e jahaur inclding Rabia City and are heavily armed and doing resistance with law enforcement agencies.

I might like to mention the link of the well known news paper The nation with a heading

“Two million youth in Karachi drug addicts”

Karachi (PPI) - In Karachi some 2million youth and children are the risk of drug addiction, as prevalence of drug addiction in very high in this mega city, said a Karachi-based NGO working on the issues of street children and youth. Rana Asif Habib, President of Initiator Human Development Foundation, talking to PPI on Saturday, said the major portion of Pakistani population is consisted of youth and children and they are highly exposed to smoking and drugs. He feared some 100million people in Pakistan might be at the risk of smoking and other types of addiction.

Karachi Airport Underattack soner or later

Taliban seeking to control the entrance of Karachi and they have been quiet successful in this regard they have captured the super highway and National Highway after that they are looking for Karachi AIR PORT named as Jinnah international airport after they have reached towards the roofs of the Flats located in Guluistan e Jahaur and the kachi abadis at the runway of airport named as PEHALWAN GOTH and BHITAI ABAD and the main roof of apartment named as Rabia City just few walks away from the AIR PORT RUNWAY and ASF HEAD QUARTER they can directly block the roots towards airport and can target Karachi airport’s runway when ever they want , we have witnessed the activities of these peoples at SUPER HIGHWAY and NATIONAL HIGHWAY that how they block the highways and and robed peoples passing by , we can expect the worst from the armed mans holding pickets in Gulistan e jahaur more then they have been doing in past at highways

While these terrorists in gulistan e jahaur have installed Machine guns and LMGs on the roofs of the apartment specially Rabia city which is only 0.44 miles away from the runway of Karachi International Airport while the effective rang of AK-47 and LMG rifles is from 100miles to 1000miles .

Besides airport PORT QASIM an important sea port of South Asia is on the blockage plan of these armed Taliban backed by ANP (awami national party ) in whole country and in Karachi.

Ulema Convention denounces Swat accord

An Ulema convention held by the MQM party on Sunday the 19th of April united scholars from different schools of thought to denounce the Swat accord and Talibanisation. In this meeting, Altaf Hussain sought the opinions of scholars and to talk about Islam. They agreed Islam is a religion of peace and that it is not a religion that believes in burning down of girls' schools, violence of any kind, bombarding shrines, suicide bombings, etc. This went against the teachings of our beloved Prophet (SAW) and the holy Quran.

Whereas the political parties of Pakistan had failed to recognise and condemn the misuse of Islam vis a vis appeasing Talibans, it is only the MQM party and the learned Islamic scholars who have spoken out against this. MQM chief Altaf Hussain gathered the scholars from different schools of thought to ask them for their opinions on the Swat accord and whether they welcomed the Taliban's shariah Islam, which is Taliban's own interpretated version. This was outrightedly rejected by the members of the invited Ulema. And what is more interesting is that majority of the invited Ulema criticised Sufi Muhammad for declaring democracy as a system of infidelity. They said if democracy was a system of infidelity, then they were all part of this system, including Fazlur Rehman, Maudoodi, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, etc, as they were all struggling for democracy.

What is even more interesting is that the current government who wanted to bring democracy to Pakistan (and I still remember Bilawal Bhutto's cheesy liner 'democracy is the best revenge') is now having to hear Sufi Muhammad's tirade against democracy in Pakistan and his claims that democracy in Pakistan is unislamic. Now one shouldn't ask why did Sufi Muhammad made an agreement with a so called democratic government...because that's not an important question. That's irrelevant. We should ask why our so called democratic government decided on an agreement with an anti democratic element. Why?

Everything seems like a bad dream for Pakistanis. It seems like our current government is taking us from one nightmare to another. As if this wasn't bad, to hear that Lal Masjid cleric was released without any reason just makes our journey through this nightmare even more prolonged.

What MQM had done is a wake up call for the Ulemas to stand united and to be vocal in opposing Talibanisation and the Swat accord. Ulemas are respected in Pakistan and to have them propose a strong lobby against Talibanisation would prove powerful and help strenghten Pakistan's fight against Talibanisation.

Burqa Terrorist Bailed and welcomed.

Another surprising event took place after nizam-e-adl regulation. It seems like Pakistan government has started changing its policies regarding terrorism and militancy just after nizam-e-adl acceptance. Pakistan’s supreme court has bailed a Mastermind of lal mosque dispute Maulana aziz on Wednesday granted bail to the deposed chief cleric of Islamabad's radical Red Mosque, who was captured two years ago during a bloody siege. Aziz had siege the lal mosque and confronted the armed forces of Pakistan in which his brother got killed. Challenged the writ of the government and killed many army officers as well.

The Government forces besieged and stormed the mosque in July 2007, Killing more then 100 militants of al-qaida and different militant organization as they were allegedly holed up inside the building and an adjacent girls school. When he saw that he has now no time to have some settlements with Government as the Government had given them chances to give up, and surrender, he tried to escape along with 4 more girls of madarrsa and was arrested wearing a burqa.

The supreme court of Pakistan has released on surety bond worth 200,000 rupee’s. he was accused of abetting the seizure of a children’s library near the red mosque. The mosque operation unleashed a wave of revenge suicide attacks across Pakistan that has left more then 1,850 People dead. Militants said to be loyal to the Red Mosque have been blamed for some of those attacks, especially a number of blasts in Islamabad, although most have been attributed to Pakistani Taliban rebels

MQM's Stands Firm.

MQM shows no fear and is now a days openly drawing attention of the people of Pakistan, media and other political allies on creeping talibanisation . MQM the only political party criticized and walked out of the parliament in protest. They said they aren’t against Islam as they are Muslims as well. But according to constitution of Pakistan there cant be 2 judicial law in Pakistan. And the current constitution isn’t against Islam. Their recent press conference on Nizam-e-adl is not shocking to the liberal forces of Pakistan including the human rights, civil society and other political parties representative. Other political parties are restricted to show their concerns but we have heard many individual voices throughout the whole Pakistan people are not in favor of this Nizam-e-adl.

People are a bit scared of talibans as TTP Spokesman Haji Muslim khan has threatened parliamentarians indirectly. But MQM stands firm on their rules and regulations. No fear to religious extremism and no shariya, which belongs to only Hanifi laws of islam. As there are many other sects, which have their own beliefs and practices.

The parliament has accepted TTP demand by allowing Nizam-e-adl . Militants who has killed policemen in Lahore and which are involved in suicide bombing mosques and killing torturing people who are muslims as well and several other cases. It was declared nizam-e-adl won’t be imposed till true peace comes in swat and till talibans wont give up weapons.

Despite of the Manawa attacks and several suicide attacks on Mosques, gatherings and Armed forces of Pakistan the so called liberal political parties like PPP, ANP, PML-N and PML-Q has given support to this nizam-e-adl in Malakand division, swat and its nearby region. And has lost support of the liberal voters of nation. ANP has revoked its manifesto and went against the teachings of Ba’cha khan of never surrender in front of ill and bad. So is for the PPP their leader Mohtarma baynazeer Bhutto said there are people in Tribal areas that are responsible for insurgency in Pakistan and she said she wouldn’t tolerate these militants creating insurgency in Pakistan. Nawaz Shareef connections with Al-Qaida and taliban is not hidden with anyone is still continue with Zia’s strategy of making Afghanistan 5th province and has support to these militants and talibans.

Yesterday attack on charsaddah after nizam-e-adl in swat is a question itself. Agencies recovered body and the person got arrested is from swat. Yesterday Soofi mohammed spokesman said taliban has given up arms. But the TTP spokesman denied to give up arms and declared that they would prolong this movement to other parts of Pakistan and arms is prestige of Muslims.

MQM’s growing support in Pakistan against Talibanization is increasing day by day. Their liberal politics for the people of Pakistan suits to the environment of prosperity and development. They have pointed out very important points of the future of Pakistan if we will allow these militants taking over our areas in the name of islam. There are various examples in islam that Our prophet peace be upon him and his campaignions never imposed islam and shariya by force. A common moderate muslim wont accept talibans forced islam . Islam is what Mohammed peace be upon has preached. Not what soofi mohammed and baitullah mehsud has imposed by guns and shells.

ANP misusing the Mandate

ANP (Awami National Party) came up as a main stake holder for NNWFP in 2008 elections,
While announcing their manifesto, Asfandyar Wali said that Awami National Party would make efforts for the establishment of a peaceful, liberal, progressive and moderate society in the country.
Now in NWFP they have accepted the sharia of religious extremism, and hence they are betraying the people of NWFP who gave them vote for a peacefull and liberal enviroment in the province. On the other hand ANP is continousily backing and providing a safe entrance to Talibans inside Karachi, and we have seen the result when an action was about to taken against them, they created a mess in the city and gave all the scenario and ethnic look.
ANP chief in Karachi, Shahi Syed creating cast difference in Karachi and gaining his political interest. One should think that if ANP believe in the prosperity and progress of pushtoon then why did they shake hands with talibans and destroying all the hopes of innocent citizens of SWAT and other tribal Areas.
The truth is, that ANP has got the support of Anti Islam and Anti Pakistan forces and with their support they got a mandate and now they are abiding the promises which they maked with Extrmists but not with the innocent people of NWFP.
Today In parliament no one is opposing the demand of Pakhtoons for giving NWFP a new name, but still ANP not looking serious for its own province, that shows that ANP is not for the prosperity of Pushtoon but the prosperity of Religious Extremists.
Pakhtoons of Pakistan will have to realize that ANP is using their name to gain their political interests and ANP was never serious for the peaceful, liberal, progressive and moderate society in the country.

Anti Islam Resolution (nizam e adal)

It was quite shocking when I came to know that a Nizam e Adal Resolution was passed in Parliament without any discussion and debate on it. It tooks no time and the resolution was passed. Now their are some questions, what was the need of this resolution. Making an agreement with those talibans who never accpeted Pakistan's Islamic rules and Laws, and by passing this resolution our national leaders proved that the Islamic system we were following from past 62 years was wrong and the self enforced laws and regulations which are introduced by these religious extremists are right.
First of all, if these extremists are really a well wisher of Muslims, then why they do bombing on shrines of Muslim Saints, why did they blew the shrine of Rehman baba and now a days more than 300 shrines are locked up beacuse of the threats given by these extremists. According to them, only those who belong to a particular sectarian belief are muslims and all others who belong to any other sectarian belief are non muslim and killing them is Jihad.
Suicide bombing in Imam Bargahs is an open proof of this all. People are migrating from Tribal areas to other places and these extremists are following them to others parts of the country also, and our government is so afraid that it accept a fake sharia Resolution and giving these extremists a full charge to decide who is muslim and who is not.

People of Pakistan should now realize that the religious extremism is the real threat to the soviergnity of Pakistan and for the image of Islam in entire world.
Leaders of ANP, PPP, Jamat e Islami, PML-N all are either afraid of them or they have been offered a heavy fruits for this all. Its quite obvious that passing a resolution without even reading it is senseless, and even the people of Pakistan who have been blinded in the favour and love of their leaders are shocked and clue less with this unpopular decision.

Predictions

Predicting about the future is a risky business. There are bright chances of you eating your own words! If there's something we Pakistanis hate more than Talibans, George Bush and India, it's being wrong. Many of you might have heard about Charles H Duell, the commissioner of the US Patent Office back in 1899, who said that "Everything that can be invented has been invented". Now those were old times. But even as late as 1977, just before personal computing age took a headlong, point-break dive into free-fall speeds, the president of Digital Equipment Corp. said "There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home."

Lets take a look back at some of the predictions, speculations and just plain bad judgement that led to the spectacular failures by
the companies that turned down multi-billion dollar opportunities.

Who was the first one to make the personal computer as we know it anyway? IBM, you say? NO. Then perhaps you might guess the ever appetising Apple? Wrong again. It was Xerox.
After a decade of research and development in the deep, dark, dungeons of Xerox's Palo Alto Research centre, a new product was demonstrated to the photo-copying giant's upper-management in 1977. The machine featured a bitmapped screen with wacky windows and drop-down menus, a more or less conventional keyboard accompanied by a strange little rolling thing called a "mouse", a built-in hard drve, a software package that included a word processor, the first onboard Ethernet and the best of all, early email capabilities. This machine was obviously the coolest thing since disco. But the top brass of Xerox didnt see a profit in it. Xerox did their best to mismanage the entire initiative until the key innovators had left the company and Xerox had securely and effectively relieved themselves of the hassles of making a few trillions dollars.

We all know that the petroleum, we use for our cars, comes to us after passing through a lot of processes, and Drilling is one of them. But you know what did the associates of Edwin L Drake said when he suggested to drill for o
il back in 1850?
They said, "
Drill for oil? You mean drill into the ground to try and find oil? You’re crazy!"
They must be crying up there in heaven (or hell) for saying such a stupid thing.

Microsoft, as you all know (unless you are a cave-dweller) also has their share of short-sighted speculations. Bill Gates himself is reported to have said in 1981, "640K ought to be enough for anybody". Although now he vehemently denies it.
Another one from Bill Gates, he said this in 2003, "These Google guys, they want to be billionaires and rock stars and go to conferences and all that. Let us see if they still want to run the business in two to three years". Now, in 2009, Google is the one of the biggest challengers to Microsoft's dominance in Computer world.

Off course, its impossible to list all the faulty speculations and short-sightedness of these trend setters. But the interesting thing about the failures, that formed the world as we know it, is that most of them led to further innovations and great achievements. Humans, as it turns out, often learn from their mistakes. Besides, as the great Yogi Berra said "Its hard to make predictions-especially about the future."

Why Ignoring Balochistan ?

Balochistan, a province of Pakistan, Rich in mineral resources and having world's largest Gold and Copper mines in Chaghi District. As it is the largest province of Pakistan (Geographically), Balochistan was supposed to be the most well devoloped most civilized Province among others. BUT, But it is not........

People of Balochistan have never been treated as a respected Pakistani, Establishment, agencies and few Politicians of Pakistan are using Balochistan for their personal benifits, Creating such an enviorment in Balochistan which causes the factor of unsatisfaction and Hatred in Baloch citizens. As a result of this, Pakistan's economy is down, and Pakistan is very much destabilized with its economy. Today another incident occurs in Balochistan, 3 Leaders are killed and no one have concern to them,

President feeling sorry, PM asked for investigation and other administrators just doing condolence to Baloch, on the other hand, we saw how far can the politicians like Imran khan, Qazi hussain and Nawaz sharif can go for their personal benifits which was to restore Mr. chaudary Iftikhar. None of these politicians have shown their unity to Baloch Citizens.

It is still a mystery, why are these politicians so mean. Why are they not raising their voice for the benifit of Balochistan, Why are they opposing the provincial autonomy (which was the part of 1940 Pakistan Resolution).

It is a big question and i feel we all know the answer very well...

THINK ABOUT IT!!

The Real Shariya , Angel Talibans And Their Modern Supporters.

From hours I was thinking about a question continuously disturbing me . Flogging video of a 17 year old girl surfaced on Pakistani electronic media and whole nation started finding answer is it the real shariya? So the question in my mind wasn’t different at all.

Should I agree what Maulana madoori said while he addressed loudly on 1970 at gulberg that if jamat-e-islami would have a chance to rule the country they would not impose hijaab by order. Or I should believe what Maulana soofi mohammed said the Democracy is totally against Islamic rules and Shariya. with whom's Shariya I should be agreed and satisfied. As the new Ameer of Jamat-e-islami has forgotten his own leaders statements and supported Soofi Mohammed who has declared democracy against Shariya and against Islam. I want to ask Munawar Hassan and the most known journalist of Pakistan who is fighting case of talibans in favor of them Ansaar abasi. Who is Alim Maulana madoodi or Soofi mohammed?

Maulana Soofi mohammed Statement against democracy is published on recent jamiat literature with bold lines. It seems like that the ideology of jamiat itself has changed. It has become more violent as muanwar hassan accepted that they are training people in Karachi for jihad and they want to help jihadi organization throughout the hold world.

Taliban supporter’s hypocrisy is something to be noticed. They are justifying attacks and declaring it revenge of drone attacks in swat and its nearby regions. Talibans are Good they had a good and the most dignified government in Afghanistan most peaceful most loving in fact they have got each and every good activity munawar hassan stated. TTP spokesman Haji muslim khan has already accepted that dispute has happened in swat and rules are not only for men. And it’s according to Shariya and also challenged any Alim to debate on the issue. If they video is fake there should not be an agreement of Flogging according to the shariya rules. And the statement rules are not only for men. Despite of that some media person’s are supporting and declaring the dispute fake due to some hidden agenda.

Taliban came in Afghanistan we were delighted. They came in FATA we were relaxed. They arrived in Swat we were still satisfied. They take over Deer and Bunair we didn’t noticed that as well. Now suicide bombings in Islamabad and Lahore has started and we will be satisfied in it as well. People from seven thousand miles are coming to fight talibans . They will be killed by talibans and America will loss. America has a habit to loss. Where ever they have gone have lost wars. If they will come to Pakistan we will defeat them people like munawwar hassan , Imran khan , Baitullah mahsood and Mullah umer would have this perception.

If the video is really fake then why there was even a single justification by talibans ? 1st We punishes women's in rooms. 2nd rules are not only for men 3rd it’s a Islamic rule 4th we can have a debate on the issue 5th it was before the peace treaty 6th the story suddenly changed its fake. The video become fake. The girl who is shouting is fake. The talibans holding hands are fake .The justification of Haji muslim khan is fake, Everything is fake but Talibans are angel.

see i still have a question

Afghan government takes a step back into the stone age.

Unbelievably shocking to hear Afghanistan has passed a bill that will allow men to have forceful sex with their wives. A forceful sex is when a wife says no and the man nonetheless goes ahead with it. It is also known as marital rape. It has been many years since the Taliban have been toppled and the government replaced by US backed President Karzai. Now what does America have to say about the person they have backed, is the one who allowed the bill to be passed? It is a controversial bill that has undoubtedly captured the attention of human rights groups. It was after an international outcry that the government decided to "look into the matter".

Some claim this law was hurriedly passed to win crucial election votes from a particular minority Shia group, even though this law doesn't extend to Sunni group. Afghanistan Ambassador to Canada, Omar Samad was on a rather defensive note, appealing to the international community to have some patience while the country deals gingerly with its newfound democracy. He further elaborated that Afghanistan women have come a long way and that they no longer are oppressed. There are women representative in Parliament, holding 89 seats out of 351 and run businesses too. Okay, so what is this marital rape bill doing here? This country had made some progression for women and now have taken one step back to stone age. Sadly.

What we can gather from this farce is the ineffectiveness of Karzai's government in promoting a sense of democracy in Afghanistan. Just for the sake of votes, they had to sell country's fundamental democratic principles. It doesn't matter how young and new democracy is in the country, it cannot be sold on the basis of greed, power and lust. Now it doesn't matter what the government does next, whether it abolishes the bill or not, the damage is already being done. And what's more damaging is Karzai's apparent silence over this matter.

Oblivious Government chooses Peace deal over human rights

Taliban has been like a Pandora’s box, taking Pakistan’s image from bad to worst with their stone age mentality and the so called implementation of Islam. Recently, another content from its Pandora’s box has garnered an international, as well as internal outcry at a seventeen year old married girl being flogged in public in Swat. Chief Justice Iftikar Muhammad Chaudhry has set up an eight member bench to investigate. It is unclear whether this incident happened before or after the government made peace deal with the militants. DCO Swat claim that this happened before the peace deal was made. Anyways that’s beside the point. The point is that the image of Pakistan is now moments away from being tarnished forever. When incidents like this used to happen in Afghanistan, the whole world, including Pakistan scorned at Afghanistan. Now, Pakistan is going through the same situation. The whole world is scorning at us. How could we let barbaric inhumane group of people who have stone age mentality tarnish our reputation?

Pakistan is no stranger to making international news relating to Taliban and its war on terrorism, but this time the recent news has pushed all the wrong buttons and clearly shows the ineffective decision undertaken by the current government by appeasing with the militant through a peace deal. Zardari insisted the deal was made with the so called moderates but making a peace deal with an outlawed leader who was jailed for six years for leading his supporters into Afghanistan to fight against American forces in 2001, what was he thinking?! What is more worrying is that militants are using Swat which is some hundred miles from Pakistan’s capital as their base to spread their radical ideology and to spread further terrorist attacks. PM Gillani have insisted the peace deal will remain intact even after the recent news. It seems that the government will choose to remain oblivious to the Pandora’s box for some unforeseeable time.

Guilt, Conscience or Career?

Lately, I have been thinking of some dilemmas our beaureucratic officials/civil servants/army officials have to go through, in their long careers.

1) Early in their careers, bureaucratic officials are sort of, compelled, and forced to do some nasty work, which hurts the country. How? Well, for an example, when the politician or a senior or your minister, asks you to do something, such as authorizing a cheque on behalf of the ministry/gvt, with malified intent, with corrupt purposes, then the officer is forced to do it. This is because, if he/she does not, then they ruin their careers. They get posted to some places, which no one has heard of, where only the worst officers are posted, their ACR's are ruined, and so on. They are 'officially' harassed. Some people do challenge such schemes and orders. And i have seen their careers ruined, because they wanted to act with integrity.

But there are people, who do accept such commands and orders. Though they are honest, and not corrupt, they still do it, to save their careers from such wrath. Though such steps do bug their conscience, but they say that they are forced, and not have an option. (I have examples, where officers were forced to take such commands, although they had never, and they would never embezzle state money. They do it, to keep their career intact). What should the officer do here? And importantly, why?

2) Then there is another sort. People who later on in their careers, are forced to take up positions, against their wish. These can be controversial positions. But they accept them so as to avoid that very wrath, as mentioned above. To give an example, I know of someone, who was amongst those, who were closest to Zia ul Haq. He was a part of Zia’s close team. But the irony is that, he was never a supporter of Zia. But he was offered to be a part of his team. Now to him, he had to options: a) to reject that offer, and be superseded, long and hard career ruined, which had been built of personal and family cost. In short, his career, though decorated with awards and medals, would have been thrown in the bin. And to top it all, his promotion to the rank of a general was in two weeks. So rejecting the offer would mean, rejecting something he had sort of worked for 30 years. The other option :b) was to accept this position with that bastard, and be promoted as deserved, and continue the career. Well, he took the second option. For reasons as to save his career from being ruined.

Another example is a posting of our relative in a very controversial position, in public eye. I will not name him, because he is actually in that position right now. He has been serving the state, for the last 30 years as well. I know for a fact, that how honest he is. Infact, how god fearing he is, and how straight forward he is. When he was offered that position, he expressed reservation. But, believe it or not, he was told directly, that he should start thinking of his future then. He accepted that appointment. The point is, that in these cases, controversial gvts, have posted good people in good posts, and importantly, in good faith. However, even though they were appointed in good faith, they were expected to do some controversial work. What should the officer(s) do here? And again, why?

3) Then there is a strange category. People, who worked hard all their life for their careers, with integrity and honesty. They were then appointed to such positions, as mentioned in the above point. But once appointed, they lost everything. They lost the ethics, integrity, with which they had built careers. They were not corrupted in financial terms, but morally they were completely corrupted. An example is another person, who was one of the main guys, to plan and implement the controversial NRO. I know for a fact, that he was one of the most honest officers I had come across in my life. To cite an example, he once even stopped a politician from embezzling 10 million USD of Pakistani state money. This money was supposed to go to some international organisation for the service provided. However a senior politician, in office, asked the money to be transferred to his account, so that he himself could pay them off. Obviously, that was an evil plan by the politician. However, he (the officer), lingered around, and did not do it, because he was aware of the intentions behind that scheme. In short, 10million USD was saved. That officer later went on, to have a great career, and rendered great services to the state. He then went on to become one of the very fine assets of Pakistan, and played an important role in over hauling Pakistani banking/financial system. One of the most powerful and sought after positions in the land. After 4 years of honest service, he was offered another position. But this time around, he was offered a controversial position, by a controversial leader. He took that position, for various reasons. a) To save his career. b) The position was such, where he could actually make a difference in the country. More difference, then he could previously. Once in that role, he did some great things for the state. The position was one of the most lucrative in the country. But he worked with honesty. BUT, then, he became a part of something, which is, arguably, the biggest scandal in Pakistani politics/history. Both in terms of morals, and money. He became a part of it. As facilitator. As implementator. And so on. But the strange thing he, he STILL did not embezzle a single penny. His record is clean, with that respect. Why did he do it? If the explanation is that power corrupts, then it is wrong. He had seen power before; he had been in power for long. That is NOT what corrupted him morally.

So what should the officers do here, in these circumstances? Circumstances, in which they have to decide their future, in which they have to choose between guilt, conscience and their future/careers. What makes some honest people, who had spent 35 years of their lives with integrity, commit such acts, by virtue of which they will never be remembered by history in good words. And if they have to choose conscience over their careers/future, then why should they? Will they be remembered to have taken such a brave step, so as to ruin what they were building their lives on? What flaws exactly are their in the system, which ‘forces’ them to opt for such options? What makes honest people, to choose these options? How can we overcome these obstacles? What can be done to provide them with security? After all, these are the very people, who actually run the state. These people are the brains of the country. This, one of the most important institutions in the country, assigned with administration and governance of the state, remains neglected, and targeted.

And these are the questions, to which I am looking for answers.

Should Britain Scrap Their Law to Give Anonymity to Sperm Donors?

In 2005, Britain had scrapped the law that protected the anonymity of sperm donors and allowed children to learn the identity of their donor fathers. This move was welcomed by those seeking to find their biological parent. However, sperm donation has dropped in numbers since 2005 and this has resulted in a shortage of sperm donors in Britain. This was a direct result of the law which granted children access to information about their biological parent. According to the figures from Human Fertilisation and Embrylogy Authority, the sperm donations had dropped considerably. In 1991, Britain logged 503 sperm donors and then in 2006, after the law was changed, the number dropped to 307. Experts have warned that Britain needs 500 sperm donations per year to cope with couples' demands of donor insemination in Britain.

The law that was introduced in 2005, has both negative and positive aspects. The positive being, it gives those seeking their biological parent a right to do so. It also give access to those who want to know any medical history that they may have taken on from their biological parent. It also increases the possibility of avoiding unintentional incest, which itself is an ethical issue. However on the other hand, the negative aspect of the law is that desperate measures may push couples to seek illegal means of obtaining sperm donation from unregistered clinics.

The accounts of many donor children should also be taken into consideration when pondering on whether this law should be scrapped or not. Several newspapers and magazines have ran stories about those who were born from donor and their experiences as donor children. Most of their accounts carried a similar tone of being 'different' from other children. The experience of not knowing their biological parent and the pain of not having a 'normal' one mother and one father upbringing.

Should Britain scrap the law to give anonymity to sperm donors? Britain should not remove this law but at the same time, should not ignore the demands of donor insemination, which is quite a serious issue. There needs to be some sort of regulation of giving assurance to sperm donors, who may not be comfortable without anonymity.

Knife crimes on the rise in the UK

Hardly surprising. London has always been a centre of attraction for youth and gang related knife crimes. According to a BBC source, tougher laws will be implemented in 2009. This will see that criminals will get tougher jail sentences. Judges will have more power to decide on punishments. Asides jail sentences, stricter community service will be introduced with a heavy sanction on curfews and personal liberties. Personally, I am not in favour of community service. For me, it means a cop out from actual jail sentence. A criminal won't learn much about the seriousness of his crime from doing community service. That is like saying to a child, you're grounded but you can still go out and be back before a time deadline.

I am not a fan of Tory party. Never liked them. However I appreciate their efforts in raising awareness about knife related crimes and how it is on a rise. I appreciate the fact they seem concerned about this. I like and support their proposal of introducing automatic presumption of jail for knife possession. It is harsh, but it is necessary. I rather see someone go to jail than to see someone getting killed. Harsh and selfish, but for me, saving a life is more important.

In 2007 and 2008, a lot of teenagers in London have died from knife related crimes. I used to read about them in the newspapers all the time. I rather we adopt the 'its better to be safe than sorry' approach. I also support the stop and search tactics. I think it is very necessary. Youth and suspicious looking folks need to be stopped and searched on the spot, where ever they are. Police should be tough and be given full support by the government and all political parties.

The UK government is already doing what they can but I feel that increasing the age limit to 18 to buy a knife, doubling the jail term isn't enough. We need to do more. We cannot rest until our streets are safe from such crimes.
